This class chronicles the history of rock-n-roll in ten parts. Part 1 is an exploration of the roots of

Rocks featuring Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, and others. Part 2 is a look at how rock-n-roll affected America’s color barrier. Part 3 is an exploration of the Beatles arrival in America and the gains of Motown. Part 4 is an examination of the electric music scene. Part 5 focuses on Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, and Aretha Franklin. Part 6 focuses on the music of the 1960s. Part 7 examines the guitar heroes Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton, and Jimmie Page. Part 8 will include a look at Disco. Part 9 is an exploration of punk, crazy hair, leather pants, Elvis Costello, and other legends. And Part 10 includes a look at the 1990s including the rise of street music and the successes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, Run DMC, and NWA.

We are currently starting the 80's Era studying & effect MTV had on the Music World. We also will look at the Climate of Society and what impact Music had on this Era (rock-the-Vote, and others).

5/13/08 Studying the 60's Era; Large group festivals, and the Climate of Society through the Civil Rights Movement and what impact Music had on this Era. Jimi Hendrix Write-up & Summary #7 are due.

Week of 5/19/08 We will be starting the 70's era of 'Big Business' and it's impact on the Music Society

Week of 5/27/08 We will be starting the Punk genre; where it grew, how it was viewed, it's evolution to New Wave, and examine and compare the recent re-birth of Punk. This will be the last section for the Seniors. Seniors will turn in their notebooks for scoring on Wednesday of this week.

Week of 6/2 & 9/08 We will study the Evolution of MTV; how it started, what impact it had on musicians and music, and examine it's evolution to today's Music Video & what impact that has on the music industry.

Week of 6/16/08 We will review the decades of music. We will make a visual timeline of music genres/Artists lined with events in society that influenced music &/or how the music impact society. Underclassmen will turn in their notebooks for grading on Monday the 16th. The final is an open-notebook chronological exam.
